How to Make Good Material Choices in the Early Stages: An Introduction to the Green Materials Guide

Thursday, October 22, 2026
How do you choose materials that meet both climate goals and project requirements? The Green Material Guide describes the environmental impact of a variety of product groups, categorized by building component and application. In this webinar, we’ll show how consultants, architects, and developers can use the guide as a practical decision-making tool in the early stages of a project.

About the event

The Green Materials Guide helps architects, consultants, and developers choose environmentally responsible materials in the early stages of a project. Project designers can use the guide to help define functional and documentation requirements, ensuring the selection of products with a low environmental impact. The guide describes the environmental impact of a range of product groups, categorized by building component and area of use. The product groups are briefly described with information on how they affect the five key environmental themes:

  • global warming
  • resource base
  • circular economy
  • environmental toxins
  • plastic content
  • indoor climate

Version 5.0 has been expanded to include a new environmental topic—plastic—and features dedicated “sliders” for plastic content and the risk of plastic leakage.

The Green Materials Guide is presented by:

Rolf Hagen, CEO of co2pilot AS, with over 20 years of experience as a climate and environmental specialist in the construction industry. co2pilot is a tool that helps

developers and consultants in developing, implementing, and documenting climate strategies across an entire project portfolio, and supports clients such as Entra ASA, OBOS Fornebu AS, and Oslobygg KF. co2pilot maintains the Green Materials Guidein collaboration with the Green Building Alliance.
