In our professional groups, experts from companies, universities, and research institutes come together to gain up-to-date insights, exchange experiences, and discuss common challenges and solutions.
These discussions often lead to new project ideas. If companies are interested, the cluster helps develop the project, identify potential participants, and secure funding. The expert group to which the project belongs often serves as a reference group.

Future Construction Solutions
The group is led by | Julie Gedde-Dahl
If wood-based materials and wood structures are to increasingly replace materials with a greater environmental impact, we must deliver flexible, innovative, and competitive building solutions that meet the needs of our customers and society. All buildings consist of multiple materials, which is why it is important to strive for optimal material combinations.
Some focus areas for the expert group
- Pre-approved solutions for 4- to 6-story wood-frame buildings
- More industrialized solutions for renovation and additions at height
- Enhanced expertise and documentation in areas such as fire safety, acoustics, and reuse
Expertise
The group is led by | Knut Amund Skatvedt
The cluster aims to enhance the companies’ ability to attract and develop current and future employees, and conditions must be created to facilitate lifelong learning in manufacturing companies. There is a need to enhance expertise in sustainability, digitalization, and advanced industrial processes.
The professional group gains new insights and shares experiences in the field of HR. We focus on recruitment for education and careers within our value chain, and we facilitate constructive dialogue with relevant vocational schools and universities.
Digitization and Automation
The group is led by | Knut Amund Skatvedt
The competitiveness of companies depends on increased digitalization and the development of industrial processes, as well as optimal use of raw materials, efficient logistics, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
The expert group will work to optimize production throughout the value chain—from the forest to the finished building—through, among other things, the sensible use of artificial intelligence, digital tracking, digital twins, and digitized production and supply chain management.
Sustainability
The group is led by | Berit Sanness
The development of new wood-based, industrial, and sustainable building solutions will be an important step toward a low-emission society. The expert group will serve as a driving force in reducing the carbon footprint throughout the value chain and, in particular, contribute to documentation.
Key areas include sustainability reporting and the development of new circular solutions for the value chain. Other important areas include climate and environmental requirements for the value chain and greenhouse gas accounting.
Internationalization
The group is led by | Knut Amund Skatvedt
This professional group will be established during 2025–2026 to serve as a meeting place and forum for companies seeking to develop expertise and networks related to internationalization and exports.
One of the cluster’s goals is to contribute to increased internationalization by raising the companies’ export value by 40% by 2035 (compared to 2024 levels). Several of the cluster’s member companies already have significant exports and their own sales organizations, while others aim to increase their exports.
